About the role
The East Burlington Wastewater Treatment Plant (EBWWTP) is located on Stone Quarry Road in Burlington and operates a 12.0 MGD activated sludge plant with a 3-stage biological nutrient removal (BNR) process. The plant treats wastewater originating from Burlington city limits and extraterritorial jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- Conducts regular plant tours, ensuring proper operation of various equipment.
- Maintains accurate records and adjusts equipment to adapt to changing operating conditions.
- Collects effluent samples for laboratory analysis and performs routine tests.
- Applies chemicals and monitors their effects on plant operations.
- Cleans and maintains plant facilities, including skimming floatables, cleaning bar screens, and disposing of waste.
- Ensures plant grounds and facilities are up to date.
- Carries out preventive maintenance tasks and assists plant maintenance staff.
- Provides customer service, answers phones, and responds to inquiries.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with additional vocational training in wastewater, environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, mechanics, or electronics.
- Minimum five (5) years experience in wastewater treatment.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
- North Carolina Grade III Wastewater Certificate; Grade IV preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certification.

- Physical requirements include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Employee is subject to hazards including proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, noise, vibration, oils, and atmospheric conditions.
- May work in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water lines, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
- May work in narrow aisles, passageways, and catwalks.
- Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Fully Exempt from overtime pay.
- Inclement weather classification: Essential.
