Lead day-to-day operations in a low-volume, high-mix development shop focused on combustors and structures.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve the existing operations-monitoring process to routinely status WIP hardware and maintain a robust schedule that informs shop bandwidth and future work.
- Manage the flow of hardware through external vendor operations, including shipping, conformity documentation, purchase orders, and acting as the shop’s primary vendor point of contact.
- Lead LEAN implementation and sustainment in the shop, tailoring principles to a high-mix, low-volume environment; develop standard work and drive 5S improvements.
- Interface with engineering, quality, inspection, engine programs, external customers, and outside vendors to communicate hardware status and shop needs.
- Create process documentation and operating instructions.
- Support troubleshooting and resolve manufacturing process issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in manufacturing).
- Minimum 3 additional years of manufacturing experience, ideally with machining, assembly, machine repair, or inspection.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience with LEAN / Six Sigma and 5S principles.
- Experience with shop operations, particularly hardware management, scheduling, quoting, and finance.
- Knowledge of tooling, fixturing, and process engineering.
- Experience with CAM/CAD, particularly Unigraphics NX.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision; self-starter.
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and the shop-floor workforce.
- Receptive to guidance and supervision; follows work rules, safety practices, and attendance standards.
- Humble, transparent, and focused leadership qualities.
- Analytical problem-solver who challenges existing processes.
