About the role

UPMC offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus with a 2-year commitment. This position functions as a working technologist who coordinates workflow, assists with projects, and leads educational activities while performing advanced imaging procedures.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday day shift options:
    • 7:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
    • 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Weekend rotation every 7 weeks from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Rotation to outpatient sites required.
  • No holidays or call shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily workflow and department schedule, maintaining staffing levels based on call-offs, vacations, patient volumes, and training needs.
  • Performs duties as a Mammographer Multi-skilled or Mammography Specialist.
  • Monitors supply utilization, ordering, and restocking as needed.
  • Serves as a mentor and leader, promoting a Culture of Service Excellence and handling conflict using system leadership tools.
  • Assists in talent acquisition interviews and provides feedback for annual performance reviews.
  • Acts as a resource individual, coordinating operational activities in the breast imaging center to promote teamwork and achieve departmental goals.
  • Oversees equipment maintenance, quality control tests, and ensures compliance with ACR/FDA/MQSA regulations.
  • Leads orientation and training for new hires, students, and medical personnel, ensuring competencies are completed on time.
  • Provides remediation for Mammographers when necessary.
  • Demonstrates proper venipuncture technique and use of power injectors per department protocols.
  • Administers PO and IV contrast as required, assessing patients for potential risk factors prior to administration.

Requirements

  • 3 years of clinical experience as a registered mammography technologist with additional competencies in specialized imaging procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients in sensitive situations, explaining procedures and providing support.
  • Analytical ability to operate complex equipment, optimize image quality, and minimize radiation exposure.
  • Advanced skills and competency in invasive breast imaging procedures, breast sonography, and/or bone densitometry.
  • Certification for breast sonography and/or bone densitometry required within 12 months of hire.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sterile technique and complex equipment operation.
  • Maintain 15 mammography credits every 3 years as defined by the Mammography Quality Standard Act.

Qualifications

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification.
  • Breast sonography and/or bone densitometry certification (required within 12 months of hire). Bone densitometry certification can be via ARRT or International Society for Clinical Densitometry.
  • CPR or BLS certification (required within 30 days of hire, based on AHA standards).
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting certification (with renewal).
  • Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 clearances (with renewal).
  • FBI Clearance (with renewal).
