Lead Maintenance Technician - Food Manufacturing

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor and schedule a team of maintenance technicians to meet production and maintenance targets.
  • Develop, implement and manage preventive maintenance programs and work schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and commission electrical, mechanical and PLC-controlled equipment and systems.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergency repairs in a timely manner, performing root cause analysis and driving corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering and safety teams to prioritize maintenance activities and support equipment upgrades or installations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs and service reports using a CMMS or similar system.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and regulatory requirements and lead continuous safety improvement efforts.
  • Train and develop maintenance staff in technical skills, safe work practices and PLC/electrical/mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Identify and implement improvements to equipment reliability, maintenance processes and cost efficiencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or technical certificate in maintenance, electrical, mechanical engineering or related field; associate degree or vocational diploma preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial environment, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Proven experience with PLC systems (programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning).
  • Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic and repair skills, including ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS software.
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and procedures, including lockout/tagout and confined space entry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Good communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and motivate a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, respond to on-call situations, and perform physically demanding tasks when required.
