Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises and assists in the cleaning, maintenance and restocking of supplies in common use areas of dormitories, work centers and recreational facilities.
- Cleans and disinfects surfaces contaminated by bodily fluids in accordance with proper blood borne pathogen procedures.
- Supervises and assists in training of new stewards, demonstrating proper ergonomics and cleaning techniques.
- Supervises and assists in special projects as assigned by Steward Coordinator, including carpet extraction, waxing and buffing floors, carpet shampooing, etc.
- Supervises and assists in restocking of required janitorial cleaning supplies, maintaining organized and efficient storage spaces.
- Supervises the laundry facility, assisting in the collection, preparation, and distribution of linen packs to and from the laundry facility.
- Assists lodging office in performing lock out duties during off work hours. (Only applies to Winter)
- Assists lodging office in performing room inspections for residents leaving station to verify rooms are in "Move in Ready" condition.
- Responsible for making up rooms for arriving Distinguished Visitors, maintaining contact with the NSF Administrative Coordinator for turn around, and ensuring rooms are cleaned after their departure.
- Participates in MCI trainings and drills as determined by supervisor.
- Performs quality assurance inspection of steward cleaning runs, documenting areas of improvement and achievement with a close eye for detail.
- Creates the daily tasking in coordination with Steward Coordinator, working also with other departments to develop the overall cleaning schedule.
- Conducts safety and maintenance presentations on janitorial related topics, products, and machines.
- May be required to work the night shift.
- Provides direct support, using staff resources if necessary, to the achievement of all metrics related to ASC.
- Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
- Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
- Must be able to lift and move up to the safety regulation maximum in a safe manner and perform functions requiring repetitive motion, standing for up to 9 hours daily, and working on hands and knees.
Education
- High school diploma or GED.
Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements
- Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica.
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid U.S. Passport.
Experience
- Minimum of one year experience in a custodial related industry or manual labor industry required.
- Minimum of one year supervisory experience required.
- Previous experience with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted in lieu of minimum experience.
Other
- US citizenship or permanent residency required.
- A prerequisite of employment for this position is to successfully gain a favorable Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) result prior to deployment. Candidates hired for this position will be required to complete; online forms, written forms, fingerprint cards and provide additional details and information as requested by NSF Personnel Security.
