Lead IR Technologist

About the role

Virginia Mason Medical Center is seeking an Interventional Radiology Technologist to support the department's operations. The role involves assisting the Interventional Radiologist during radiographic interventional procedures, preparing patients, and operating imaging equipment.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, explain procedures, and answer questions to alleviate anxiety and ensure cooperation.
• Position patients correctly for each examination, ensuring comfort and accurate angle.
• Apply appropriate radiation protection measures for patients, staff, and self.
• Screens patients for contraindications, pregnancy, or metallic implants as per protocol.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment in the imaging rooms.
• Operate radiologic equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
• Select appropriate technical factors for optimal image quality and minimal radiation dose.
• Perform quality control checks on equipment as required.
• Utilize PACS and RIS for image acquisition, archiving, and patient information management.
• Assist radiologists or physicians during fluoroscopic procedures or other advanced examinations.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper labeling and documentation of images.
• Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
• Comply with state and federal radiation safety standards.
• Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
• Maintain professional demeanor and effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
• Stay current with advances in radiologic technology and practices through continuing education.
• Perform routine checks and troubleshooting of imaging equipment.
• Report equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel for repair.
• Ensure adequate supply levels within the imaging suite.

Requirements

• Graduation from a hospital-based or college-based radiology program.
• Washington State Certification for Radiologic Technologist and a certificate from the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
• Completion of 24 Category "A" continuing education (CE) within a two-year period.
• Critical thinking skills; quality assurance assessment skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work with highly technical equipment; extensive product knowledge; a thorough understanding of sterile technique.
• BLS from AHA upon time of hire.
• Ability to achieve hemostasis following the removal of arterial/venous catheters.

Preferred

• Two (2) years of experience in Interventional Radiology.
• ACLS certification.

Qualifications

• Current registration with ARRT.
• Pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check/drug screen.
• Ability to achieve hemostasis following the removal of arterial/venous catheters.

Pay

The posted compensation range of $56.10 - $85.73 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.

Schedule

80 hours per pay period, 4 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday (7:30 AM - 6 PM or 7 AM - 5:30 PM); call required.
