About the role

At our Phoenix Reload facility, we transload steel and other building materials from rail, truck, and containers. We provide custom handling, inventory management, and other services. This is a small but mighty division backed by an organization that employs over 1,300 people. Our growth is unprecedented, with several opportunities for advancement within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Work and report to the immediate supervisor to prioritize daily job requirements
• Perform daily duties alongside crew and inform them of the daily plan
• Report all incidents, problems, or concerns regarding technical, safety, labor, materials, equipment, and processes to the immediate supervisor
• Maintain service quality
• Continue performing the work for which you were hired (e.g., driving a truck, operating machinery, forklift, repair and maintenance)
• Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations; participate in identifying hazards
• Comply with all rules, regulations, protocols, and established metrics
• Understand cross-training on all functions at the facility
• Discuss repairs and preventative maintenance schedules with yard staff and division management
• Ensure accurate and timely delivery of paperwork and work orders
• Monitor the performance of yard, shop, and/or divisional employees and discuss with the supervisor as necessary
• Provide excellent internal and external customer service
• Travel to other terminals to assist if necessary
• Suggest continuous improvements in working conditions, equipment use, and processes to increase efficiency and quality
• Troubleshoot, adjust, or perform minor maintenance on machinery
• Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor

Requirements

• Previous relevant experience required
• Must be highly effective and proficient in the role you were hired for (e.g., truck driver, shop employee, yard employee, equipment operator)
• Experience with routine maintenance operations
• Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse environment
• Strong time management and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedules
• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temperatures, heat, wind)
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally
• First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
• Experience working with computers is an asset
• Physically able to climb up and down ladders/railcars safely
• Can carry at least 50 lbs. and swing a 10 lbs. sledgehammer
• Good physical condition
• Mechanical inclination is an asset
