Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct daily work activities of field crews, including laborers, carpenters, ironworkers, and equipment operators.
- Emphasize safety, quality, and production.
- Aware of multiple construction activities, including employees, subcontractors, moving heavy equipment, and other potential construction hazards.
- Through knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work being performed.
- Communicate with the Superintendent or Project Manager on project progress, issues, and resource needs.
- Cover daily electronic reporting of timecards, diaries, job site photos, quantities, safety observations, and JHAs.
- Review daily production and cost analyses to meet the budget and schedule.
- Review all contracts, project documentation, and plans to ensure the work is built to specific specifications.
- Schedule state and local inspections required to complete the work.
- Ensure the work meets proper quality control standards.
- Oversee field personnel, schedules, and construction operations.
- Ability to read and understand project-specific documents, including schedules, plans, and specifications.
- Hold daily huddles to confirm that all crew members are aware of goals, production, and specific job site safety requirements.
- Keep clear and direct communication with crew members, superintendents, clients, client representatives & office staff.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, use tools, and assist with labor as required to complete the job.
- Daily labor, equipment, haul & production monitoring to meet budgets.
- Manage and evaluate heavy equipment, tools, and materials as needed for the specific job or assigned task.
- Ensure equipment is inspected & maintained daily.
- Schedule maintenance as needed.
- Ensure operators properly maintain & thoroughly clean equipment and hand tools at the end of each day.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in the heavy construction industry is preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to mentor and motivate crew members.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project plans, and specifications.
- Understanding safety regulations, DOT requirements, and quality control procedures.
- Must be willing to obtain and maintain all certifications and required training (CPR, First Aid, OSHA 30, etc.).
- Knowledge of bridge, highway, and/or concrete rehabilitation preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- May be required to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, such as lifting heavy objects, bending, kneeling, etc.
- Spanish-speaking skills are highly preferred to communicate with diverse teams and stakeholders effectively.
