About the role

As an Android video expert at Crestron Electronics, you will provide deep technical leadership for our embedded Android and Linux video platforms. This hands-on firmware engineering role leads development efforts, influences direction, roadmaps, and technical decisions, with ownership across video architecture, codec integration, performance optimization, debugging, and production hardening.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hands-on video platform integration, configuration, bring-up, and release readiness across Android multimedia framework, Codec2/AIDL services, video HAL/vendor components, kernel drivers, firmware interfaces, camera, display, and application-level video paths.
  • Drive root-cause analysis, code-level troubleshooting, performance tuning, and production hardening for complex video issues involving hardware encode/decode, synchronization, memory management, buffer handling, latency, power efficiency, video quality, stability, and end-to-end pipeline throughput.
  • Provide technical architecture direction for Android/Linux video platforms, including multimedia stack design decisions, codec integration strategy, secure and non-secure video paths, low-latency streaming, multi-instance workloads, camera-to-video flows, display interaction, and platform tradeoffs.
  • Define and execute validation strategy, automation, regression coverage, stress and soak testing, codec compliance, interoperability testing, playback, recording, streaming, conferencing, and multi-session release qualification for Android and Linux video platform releases.
  • Provide technical leadership to engineers through design reviews, implementation support, debugging assistance, mentoring, technical documentation, vendor engagement, risk communication, and cross-functional coordination with firmware, BSP, camera, display, hardware, application, QA, customer-facing, and silicon/vendor teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (required).
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Embedded Android/Linux multimedia software development and debugging, with strong C/C++ expertise.
  • Android video architecture, Codec2, AIDL/HIDL concepts, media codec configuration, video HAL/vendor extensions, and hardware video codec integration.
  • Hardware video encode/decode bring-up and debug, including low-latency paths, secure/non-secure sessions, buffer formats, metadata, and multi-instance concurrency.
  • Camera-to-video, display output, graphics/display interaction, GStreamer/FFmpeg/V4L2 concepts, or Linux multimedia pipeline experience.
  • Hardware video codec/VPU integration — H.264/H.265/HEVC, VP9, AV1, low-latency, Universal Bandwidth Compression.
  • Embedded Linux and Android debugging using C/C++, adb, native logs, tombstones, traces, kernel logs, firmware logs, and buffer dumps.
  • Video quality and performance tuning.
  • Cross-subsystem video integration across camera capture, display output, graphics interop, kernel drivers, firmware, and applications.
  • Validation automation for codec compliance, stress, soak, playback, record, conferencing, streaming, and multi-session regression.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon/QC8250/8550-class video platforms, Adreno VPU capabilities, Android vendor multimedia stacks.
  • Camera/ISP and display pipeline knowledge including AI-camera features, video HDR, MIPI DSI/display timing, and product-level video quality.
  • Cross-functional communication with firmware, BSP, hardware, QA, application, and silicon/vendor teams.

Pay

Per applicable state requirements, the annual pay range for this position is $132,000 - $214,000, which consists of base salary (subject to performance). An individual’s offer may vary based on hiring location, qualifications, experience, and market factors.
