About the Role
Jensen Hughes has a career opening for an experienced Fire Protection Engineer/Consultant in our Atlanta office. We are a leading fire protection consulting firm providing a range of professional services involving life safety, fire protection, security and mass notification on commercial, institutional and industrial projects for clients worldwide. Our office is preparing to move into a new space in a high-rise tower in the heart of Buckhead, and the new space boasts an elite fitness center for employee use and is just mere steps away from public transportation, restaurants and retail.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, sprinkler design, fire alarm design, performance-based fire engineering design, with other P.E.’s or experienced consultants.
- Develop and review plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to ensure these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good professional service practice standards.
- Assist in the resolution of design problems by performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
- Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.
- Conduct and document basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations.
- Manage, plan, and direct engineering activities for your own projects with support from others.
- Conduct building and fire code reviews and analyses.
- Provide quality control reviews of fire protection system designs including fire alarm, sprinkler, and special hazard systems.
- Lead and provide quality control reviews for projects that involve fire and egress modeling, including FDS, Pathfinder, and/or Contam.
- Manage projects which involve computer-based modeling and review computer-model inputs for quality control.
- Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
- Be a key player in Business Development activities.
Requirements and Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in code consulting, design of fire suppression and alarm systems, and developing performance-based strategies in a project design environment is required.
- Registered Professional Engineer required.
- Excellent report writing and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to present clear and technically sound fire protection engineering strategies and have good communication and negotiations skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, enjoy professional challenges, and want to be an integral part of the long-term growth of Jensen Hughes.
Pay
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
