About the role

The Environmental Dispute Resolution (EDR) Program fosters a culture of collaboration around environmental, natural resource, and broader public policy issues by helping people be more skillful in working through conflict. The Program is based in the School of Social Sciences and Heravi Peace Institute, and it focuses on building capacity for collaboration through training, thought leadership, and collaboration assistance and advising.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, coordinates, and implements student- and alumni-engagement efforts for the EDR Program.
  • Serves as a principal liaison between students, faculty, staff, other departments, and/or external constituencies to develop and implement projects and initiatives.
  • Designs and facilitates workshops, seminars, practice sessions, meetings, and special projects.
  • Teaches and/or leads seminars, classes, and/or workshops in alignment with EDR Program priorities. May teach up to 6 credit hours per year of for-credit undergraduate courses.
  • Collaborates with support staff, consultants, faculty, and/or volunteers engaged in implementation and administration of projects and initiatives.
  • Maintains project revenues and expenses; may develop or participate in the development of funding proposals for projects.
  • Contributes to development of promotional materials, educational materials, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate.
  • Collects and analyzes situation assessment data; prepares reports; maintains records and data.
  • Assists with writing grants and proposals as appropriate; may participate in other fundraising activities.
  • Conducts specialized activities, including collaboration assistance and advising projects in direct support of EDR Program objectives. May train and direct lower-level staff, student employees, volunteers, and/or graduate students.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of relevant work experience; or a master’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Education: Masters degree in Public Policy, Community Planning, or a related field. Expertise: 7+ years of experience leading public engagement, mediation, and/or collaborative efforts, specifically within the public sector. Professional training in facilitation or mediation. Regional Knowledge: Demonstrated success facilitating complex community assessments and partnerships within Utah or the Intermountain West. Instruction & Leadership: Experience with undergraduate instruction, curriculum design, and the supervision of students or interns. Professionalism: Ability to work autonomously in an academic environment, demonstrating high-level problem solving and communication skills.
