Lead Experience Design Strategist (US)
Work Location: Mount Laurel, New Jersey, United States of America. Full-time position (40 hours per week).
About the role
The Lead Experience Designer owns and drives design strategies across multiple product areas, responsible for ensuring industry-leading integrated (end-to-end) experiences for enterprise customers and colleagues, agnostic of channel.
This is a highly seasoned professional role requiring substantial expertise in a complex field and broad knowledge of related areas. The role integrates enterprise sub-function or business line strategy in developing solutions across multiple functions or operations. You will interpret internal and external business challenges and industry environments, recommend courses of action, and best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
You will lead cross-functional teams or projects with significant resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity, and independently manage end-to-end functional programs. The role involves solving or leading others to solve complex problems, developing new solutions, and taking day-to-day direction from Product Owners, Tech Leads, and UX Design Leads within your platform or journey.
Responsibilities
- Leads the planning and development of the Bank’s digital interface design standards, usability guidelines, accessibility guidelines, and development methodologies.
- Works with marketing to ensure digital efforts reflect the Bank’s branding and market positioning strategies.
- Leads user-centered design methodologies to ensure ideas are accessible and based on customer needs.
- Leads and directs the production of site maps, prototypes, and the creation of graphics or icons for the Bank’s digital properties.
- Participates in all phases of the product development lifecycle, including product ideation, definition, user research, feature team scoping and planning, estimating effort, design, post-launch evaluation, and stakeholder communication.
- Works closely with Tech Leads, Product Owners, and product families to plan stages of digital feature implementation in roadmap and release cycles, developing the best solutions for customers.
- Leads and directs the development of design utilizing user-centered design principles, directing other designers or content development staff as assigned, while coordinating cross-functional teams.
- Leads Human-Centered Design activities, setting direction for designers in pods.
- Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies related to experience design activities.
- Ensures programs, policies, and practices are well-managed, meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with business priorities.
- Exercises discretion in managing correspondence, information, and confidentiality; escalates issues as appropriate.
- Ensures business operations comply with applicable internal and external requirements (e.g., financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals, and physical control of assets).
- Participates in cross-functional or enterprise initiatives as an experience design subject matter expert, helping identify risks and providing guidance for complex situations.
- Conducts internal and external research projects; supports the development and delivery of presentations and communications to management or broader audiences.
- Conducts meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level, using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, and assess the effectiveness of programs, policies, or practices.
- Monitors service, productivity, and efficiency levels within your function; implements continuous process and performance improvements where opportunities exist.
- Leads, facilitates, or implements actions and remediation plans to address performance, risk, or governance issues.
- Actively manages relationships within and across business lines, corporate, or control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise and regulatory requirements.
- Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements, assessing potential impacts.
- Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes aligned with risk appetite.
- Protects the interests of the organization by identifying and managing risks, and escalating non-standard, high-risk transactions or activities as necessary.
- Mentors and enables others, defining best practices and teaching the craft across the organization.
- Actively mentors and enables team members by sharing knowledge and leveraging Human-Centered Design best practices.
- Provides thought leadership and industry knowledge for your area of expertise and participates in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit.
- Keeps current on emerging trends and developments, growing knowledge of the business, related tools, and techniques.
- Participates in personal performance management and development activities, including cross-training within your team.
- Keeps others informed and up-to-date about project status, progress, and relevant day-to-day information.
- Contributes to team development through mentorship, sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices.

Requirements
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of experience, preferably in digital design, interaction, and visual design.
Qualifications
- Expertise in Figma, JIRA, Confluence, and SharePoint.
- 5+ years of experience leading design teams (preferred).
- Post-graduate degree in psychology, human factors, design, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Proven competencies across the user experience lifecycle (e.g., user experience strategy, service design, visual design, user research).
- Ability to present and justify design decisions to senior leadership.
- Experience coordinating design resources across a large volume of intakes and successfully prioritizing customer accountabilities.
Pay
Base pay range: $91,000 – $136,240 USD per year. TD is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities. The base pay offered may vary based on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, geographic location, and other business or organizational needs.
