Lead Equipment Technician, Rental
Safety
Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. Ensures all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSECO employees. Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.
Essential Functions
Oversees employees. Assists in performance review and helps administer discipline. Assists Rental Coordinators and Rental Foreman in developing rental schedule, which includes future and current rental needs, work order status, preventative maintenance schedules, and annual/quarterly machine inspection schedules.
Completes operational inspection of all rental machines and decides if repair will be done by Rental or will be sent to the Service Department. Works directly with Service for efficient scheduling of repairs to maintain optimum rental availability. Research machine warranty status and schedules warranty repairs with service.
Uses troubleshooting methods to repair and diagnose machine failures and perform repairs. Performs repairs in the field, shop, or at customer locations which can include overtime. Adheres to all customer requirements while on job site. Communicates machine issues, problem resolution plan(s) and status of repair(s) to customer during repairs. Solves any customer issues or disputes. Refers issues to Rental Foreman as needed.
Repairs, Parts Orders, Service Manuals and SIS
Performs repairs on all Allied equipment in the rental fleet, and orders parts as needed. Completes documents for rental closeout upon return. Maintains rental yard in a neat and orderly fashion. Assists customers with loading and unloading of rental equipment. Changes machine attachments and verifies proper operation before renting. Uses service manuals, SIS and Allied parts information effectively to address technical issues. Performs all required tasks in accordance with outlined procedures. Maintains safe working conditions and insures that employees follow proper procedures. Assists and mentors’ technicians in learning new skills. Adheres to all customer care standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent customer service skills. Ability to self-schedule and perform duties with minimal supervision required. Ability to quickly assess situation and make logical decisions. Knowledge and use of Microsoft computer products or other comparable systems required. Ability to use SIS, Microsoft A/X, ET, and Smartequip. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others to include customers, vendors, employees, and the public. Ability to work overtime with minimal notice required. Consistent attendance.
Education and Experience
Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Associates Degree or technical training from an accredited vocational school preferred. Two years minimum experience working on heavy equipment with hydraulic, engine and power train experience required. Comprehensive knowledge on how to read schematics, troubleshoot, disassemble, assemble, remove and install machine components and systems required. Minimum of one-year previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Characteristics
Must be able to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting. Able to lift up to 50 lbs in accordance with Western States’ Lifting Safe Work Practice to include amount and approach. Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
