Lead Engineer - Civil
About the Role
Ulteig is seeking a Lead Engineer who acts as a fully competent engineer, performing work involving the application of intense and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices. This role uses advanced techniques, theory, and practices to complete complex project features and provides expert consultation for the design, development, and implementation of technical plans and systems. The Lead Engineer performs calculations, supervises less experienced engineers, and develops a solid team. Candidates must have experience working with Departments of Transportation, County Governments, and/or Municipal Governments, along with general knowledge of the practices and policies of these governing agencies.
Responsibilities
- Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities.
- Apply advanced techniques, theories, procedures, and practices to complete engineering tasks within the discipline.
- Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to sound engineering practice.
- Assist in the preparation of design calculations.
- Practice engineering efficiently as it pertains to design selection and recommend alterations to improve quality.
- Work closely with engineering technicians and experienced engineers, both in the office and in the field.
- Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, resolving design problems through field investigations and observations.
- Perform detailed design work and check design computations done by others.
- Coordinate general but specific design aspects of a project and perform engineering design and evaluations within the specialty.
- Devise new approaches and solutions to problems encountered.
- Prepare reports and correspondence concerning assigned projects.
- Participate in marketing, sales, and business development activities within an assigned market.
- Resolve highly complex technical issues and conduct advanced research.
- Participate in contract bidding and administration, and observe project action on site.
- May participate in or lead team development and recruiting activities.
- Provide consultation on complex projects and act as a technical leader and resource for other engineers within the discipline.
- Provide excellent client service and actively communicate with clients to meet their needs.
- Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
- Participate in community and professional development activities.
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering; a master's degree is preferred.
- PE license required.
- Minimum of 7 years’ engineering experience is preferred.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred.
- Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
- Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Pay
Target base compensation range for this role is $111,200 - $150,400. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include job-specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role, and comparison to other employees already in this role.
