Axia Electric, a subsidiary of Shimmick Construction, is seeking a talented Lead Electrical Estimator to support project pursuits across Texas. Our Electrical Division specializes in electrical, instrumentation, and process controls for water/wastewater treatment, dams, transit, alternative energy, power generation, and commercial building projects.

About the role

This remote-based role in Texas will play a key part in Axia's growth by developing and coordinating full project estimates, analyzing project risks, and supporting bid preparation. The Lead Electrical Estimator will work independently to evaluate and adapt standard estimating techniques while providing guidance to less experienced personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop proficiency in the company’s estimating systems and processes, applying terminology, measures, and principles for all estimate types.
  • Analyze how project actions and assumptions impact estimates and quantify those impacts.
  • Prepare and coordinate full project estimates, including conceptual and final estimating input.
  • Understand construction means, methods, and sequences for electrical disciplines.
  • Prepare the Estimate Plan and perform all aspects of estimating, including independent evaluation and adaptation of standard techniques.
  • Develop wage rate build-ups and interpret drawings, specifications, RFPs, and contracts.
  • Perform detailed material take-offs for bulk material procurement.
  • Apply company cost structure elements (overheads, G&A, insurance, etc.) to estimates.
  • Develop cash flow schedules and estimates.
  • Use the CAES estimating system to prepare scope and bid package breakdowns for subcontractor and vendor quotes.
  • Conduct subcontract bid analysis for scope, cost, and price.
  • Understand Earned Value Management (EVMS) theory and application.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced estimating personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 6 years of relevant experience (or demonstrated equivalency).
  • Master Electrician License (Texas) is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage changing deadlines and work under pressure for multiple team leaders.
  • Capability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
