About the Role

Bonneville Seattle is seeking a passionate leader to oversee and manage all content for MyNorthwest with the goal of growing and maximizing our audience. This role involves managing the digital content production team’s day-to-day performance, ensuring digital properties are compelling, updated in a timely manner, and operating effectively while supporting the company’s legacy media properties. This is an onsite role based in Seattle, with work configurations subject to change based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a distinct brand identity for MyNorthwest by identifying specific types of stories, angles, styles, and techniques, ensuring the digital team understands and delivers on brand expectations.
  • Provide editorial vision and day-to-day direction for MyNorthwest, including story selection, presentation, tools, resources, and staffing.
  • Supervise a team of writers, handling recruitment, training, scheduling, assignments, coaching, goal-setting, and performance feedback.
  • Lead the production, gathering, editing, and updating of content for MyNorthwest on a daily basis, collaborating closely with others in the building.
  • Work with Bonneville Seattle’s management team to meet company-wide initiatives, offering innovative and creative ideas.
  • Create and maintain a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Support all digital properties and work with on-air personalities, including producing on-air content as needed.
  • Ensure the radio stations’ overall image of quality and leadership is reflected on the website.
  • Develop sources, pitch multiple story ideas, and follow beats while demonstrating sound news judgment and working under tight deadlines.
  • Engage with the audience on social platforms and use Facebook, Facebook Live, Twitter, and Instagram for story curation and integration.
  • Optimize articles for search using SEO and make quick editorial decisions based on analytics.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and odd hours, to ensure digital properties are continually updated and fresh.
  • Update content remotely as needed, especially during breaking news and major events.
  • Develop pages for new site features, events, and activities, gathering relevant information and graphic elements from various departments.
  • Ensure the website promotes sales activities and helps direct the site toward profitability.
  • Market and promote the stations via the website, maximizing its effectiveness as a communications medium.
  • Coordinate with the technical team regarding web operations, including servers, connectivity, and system functionality.
  • Manage online events, special features, and social media content while maintaining positive rapport with staff, management, and clients.
  • Project a professional appearance and demeanor both in person and online, including across social media channels.

Requirements

  • Ability to manage a team of writers with a growth mindset, including scheduling, pitch meetings, editorial calendars, and special projects.
  • Experience onboarding new writers/contributors and communicating company policies.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, headline writing, and grammar skills, with adherence to a style guide.
  • Ability to edit, produce, and create accurate, well-presented content quickly and under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated sound news judgment and adaptability in breaking news situations.
  • Ability to ghostwrite or adopt another contributor’s style and tone.
  • Experience digesting large quantities of audio and writing articles based on what you’ve heard.
  • Proficiency in engaging with audiences on social platforms and using them for story curation and integration.
  • Understanding of SEO and ability to optimize articles for search.
  • Ability to read and digest analytics and make quick editorial decisions based on results.
  • Willingness to support all digital properties and work with on-air personalities, including producing on-air content as needed.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new programs and HTML.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and odd hours to ensure digital properties are continually updated.
  • Ability to update content remotely as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in journalism, communications, or commensurate work experience.
  • Managerial experience.
  • Good working knowledge of Digital Content Management Systems, preferably WordPress, HTML, and Photoshop.
  • Experience with audio and video editing software is preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.

Pay

The compensation range for this role is $26.73 - $36.92 per hour. The hourly rate will be determined by evaluating the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with internal and external benchmarks. The provided pay range spans multiple levels for this role.
