About the Role
Delaware Valley Floral Group is seeking a Lead Delivery Driver to join our Richmond Distribution Team. This role is responsible for safely delivering fresh floral products while serving as a leader for the driver team by providing training, operational support, and backup coverage for Distribution Management. As a key member of our distribution team, you'll help ensure efficient daily operations, maintain exceptional customer service, and support a safe, productive, and high-performing delivery team.
Responsibilities
The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 3am to finish of route, with additional hours/days needed during peak seasons. Hours are also subject to change based on the volume of work, holidays, etc.
- Perform vehicle inspection before and after routes, reporting any vehicle issues to DC Manager.
- Review daily shipments to make sure product/package count matches customer order paperwork before departure.
- Load and organize product into vehicle, utilizing straps, if needed, to eliminate damage or breaking of product during travel.
- Unload product at the customer location in a timely and safe manner.
- Adhere to all rules and laws of driving to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Keep accurate records of deliveries, customer authorizations and payment, and ensure all documentation is submitted to the proper personnel at the end of each day.
- When needed, resolve delivery-related issues on the spot, while proactively communicating potential issue to branch leadership.
- Follow the pre-planned route accurately and without deviation from set course unless discussed with management.
- Immediately report any accidents or vehicle issues to the DC Manager.
- Follow all company and state enforced safety requirements for the vehicle, and for loading and unloading of product.
- Maintain a professional image and demeanor at all times.
- Demonstrate a commitment to our customers and build effective customer relationships.
- Perform other duties as determined by branch leadership on an as-needed basis.
Lead Driver Responsibilities
- Be a role model that will foster a healthy and positive work environment.
- Provide back-up coverage when DC Manager is out of the office.
- Printing, organizing and assignment of loading manifests, invoices and pertinent customer delivery information to our route drivers.
- Monitor and manage the daily workload.
- Provide training and development periodically riding along with drivers.
- Provide feedback to both the driver and DC Manager, to assist with performance management.
- Communicate and collaborate with other members of the management team or different departments both verbally and written.
- Work with other Distribution Centers to cross-train and develop Best Practices.
- Familiarity and efficiency with various computer software packages: Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Payroll/Time and Attendance software, dynamic routing software, etc.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role requires the ability to work in a warehouse and refrigerated cooler environment (approximately 34°F) with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Lift and move up to 60 pounds regularly.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb throughout the workday.
- Drive and sit for extended periods while operating a 16-foot refrigerated box truck.
- Operate equipment including pallet jacks and box cutters.
- Read delivery documentation and safely navigate delivery routes.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous professional experience driving commercial vehicles, preferably box trucks or similar delivery vehicles.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to obtain DOT Medical Certification (CDL not required).
- Must be at least 21 years of age with an acceptable driving record.
- Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and support team members.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency using GPS, route navigation tools, and basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong time management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Dependable, safety-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screenings.
