Lead Data Scientist, Justice Processes

About the role

The Office of Criminal Justice seeks a Lead Data Scientist to drive data-driven decision-making and innovation in criminal justice processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistics, machine learning, and data analysis, with experience in applying these skills to complex social issues.

Responsibilities

• Develop predictive models to inform policy decisions and improve public safety outcomes
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the agency to identify data needs and develop actionable insights
• Conduct research and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of criminal justice programs and policies
• Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and other stakeholders

Requirements

• PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience in data science, machine learning, or related fields
• Experience with statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization tools
• Strong communication and presentation skills

Qualifications

• Expertise in data analysis and interpretation
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
• Knowledge of criminal justice systems and practices

Skills

• Proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages
• Experience with SQL and database management
• Understanding of ethical considerations in data analysis and privacy concerns
