About the role

This position oversees and coordinates the maintenance and cleaning of buildings at Murray Elementary School to ensure a safe, clean, and functional learning environment. It involves managing a team of custodians, ensuring efficient work completion, and adhering to safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Opens and secures buildings; Inspects for safety and cleanliness; Reports deficiencies to appropriate personnel.
  • Conducts monthly safety reviews and submits reports; Checks for heating and cooling adequacy; Counsels custodians on cleanliness issues; Reports serious infractions.
  • Schedules custodial coverage for weekend events; Coordinates with evening custodial staff and department leadership; Monitors email and supplies; Evaluates practices and facilities for safety concerns.
  • Performs routine cleaning tasks; Responds to requests from building occupants; Assists in training new custodial staff; Reviews and submits work order requests; Responds to accidents and potential hazards.
  • Maintains building perimeter; Refinishes or restores resilient floor tile; Maintains carpet by extraction, spotting, and bonnet cleaning; Monitors floating custodians' performance; Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must be able to follow oral and written directions, work independently, and work in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment, including heavy commercial cleaning equipment.
  • General knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials, and other work-related precautions.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school with two years of custodial or janitorial experience and one year of supervisory or team lead experience.
  • ACPS Custodial Certification may substitute for supervisory experience.

Skills

  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
