About the role

This position oversees and coordinates the maintenance and cleaning of buildings at Brownsville Elementary School to ensure a safe, clean, and functional learning environment. It involves managing a team of custodians, performing routine and maintenance cleaning, and addressing safety concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Opens and secures buildings; Inspects for safety and cleanliness; Reports deficiencies to appropriate personnel.
  • Conducts monthly safety reviews and submits reports; Checks for heating and cooling adequacy; Counsels custodians on cleanliness issues; Reports serious infractions.
  • Schedules custodial coverage for weekend events; Coordinates with evening custodial staff and department leadership.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; Accepts and puts away supply deliveries; Evaluates practices and facilities; Investigates complaints; Follows ACPS Building Services guidelines for ordering supplies.
  • Performs routine cleaning tasks; Assists in training and onboarding new custodial staff; Reviews and submits work order requests; Responds to accidents or potential safety hazards; Performs minor maintenance tasks.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

This position requires a combination of education and experience, including two years of custodial or janitorial experience and one year of supervisory or team lead experience. ACPS Custodial Certification may substitute for supervisory experience. Must have a valid driver’s license and pass a negative drug screening and tuberculin test.

Qualifications

Must be able to follow oral and written directions, work independently, and work in a team setting. Must have general knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment, including heavy commercial cleaning equipment. Must have knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials, and other work-related precautions.

Skills

Must have the ability to follow oral and written directions, work independently, and be able to work in a team setting. Must have general knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment to include the use of heavy commercial cleaning equipment such as high-powered buffers and scrubbers. Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Must have knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials, and other work-related precautions.
