Job Summary

The Personnel Commission announces an OPEN and PROMOTIONAL recruitment. This recruitment will result in the establishment of one integrated eligibility list. Promotional candidates will have seniority points added to final passing scores (.25 of a point for every year of classified service up to a maximum of 5 points). This list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will be active for one year or until canceled. There is currently ONE positions open at El Camino High School. This is an 8 hour/day, 12-month position. Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, plan, coordinate, assign, oversee, and perform skilled custodial services and routine minor maintenance functions at a high school site; provide lead responsibility and provide work direction for custodial employees; maintain assigned buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, sanitary, secure, and safe condition; and arrange and assist in maintaining the physical environment required for activities held at the facility.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of responsible experience in the custodial or maintenance trades, preferably including some experience in positions having lead or supervisory responsibility.
  • Knowledge of Methods, techniques, materials, and equipment used in cleaning and custodial maintenance work.
  • Requirements for maintaining school sites in a safe, secure, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Safety related to cleaning methods, practices, and equipment.
  • Principles of training, providing work direction, and work layout.
  • Appropriate health and safety regulations, safety precautions, and procedures.
  • Proper wear and usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • District and site policies, procedures, and objectives of assigned program and activities.
  • Inventory methods and practices.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • Operation of a computer, mobile device, and assigned software.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Proper lifting techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

  • To Coordinate work schedules and tasks.
  • To Perform heavy manual labor.
  • To Work independently with little direction and supervision.
  • To Direct the work of custodial staff in performing a variety of cleaning and custodial duties at an assigned site.
  • To Oversee and participate in a variety of cleaning and custodial maintenance activities.
  • To Plan, schedule, and assign the work of others.
  • To Operate specialized cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment.
  • To Observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair.
  • To Understand, follow, carry out, and give oral and written instructions.
  • To Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • To Maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • To Maintain records and files in connection with a custodial work program.
  • To Communicate with diverse groups and individuals.
