Location: Uinta County School District #1, Evanston High School, Evanston, Wyoming
Salary: $21.70 per hour • Schedule: Full-time, 8 hours/day, Monday–Friday, 12 months per year
About the role
The Lead Custodian supports the school by providing leadership and direction, planning and maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant, and fostering a learning environment that promotes health, attitude, and pride of students.
Responsibilities
- Leadership
- Provide direction, feedback, and guidance to custodial crews
- Assign work to team members and inspect completed tasks
- Train and support staff as needed
- Provide input to building administrators on team performance and reliability
- Manage the custodial budget, including ordering supplies, tracking purchases, and projecting future needs
- Maintain all equipment and stay current on product pricing to optimize district spending
- Serve as liaison between building administrators, Facilities and Maintenance Department, staff, and community
- Cleaning and Maintenance
- Keep buildings clean and orderly: collect trash, sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, disinfect, scrub tables, clean restrooms
- Maintain building plants and keep cleaning closets stocked
- Sweep entries and sidewalks; change marquee messages
- Assist with traffic flow and place orange cones daily
- Perform daily cafeteria maintenance: clean tables, sweep and scrub floors, remove trash, set up and take down tables and chairs
- Assist cafeteria staff as needed
- Conduct seasonal deep cleaning (summers, holiday breaks)
- Safety and Security
- Ensure all doors and windows are closed and locked when the building is not in use
- Maintain working knowledge of chemicals used, including proper storage and handling
- Check fire extinguishers for compliance
- Monitor and address safety concerns within the building or on the grounds
- Schedule and perform regular monthly preventative maintenance
- Educate custodial team on emergency shut-off valves and emergency phone numbers
- Participate in crisis management meetings and emergency drills
- Keep building staff updated on crisis management protocols
- Maintain all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Remove snow and ice to ensure safe building grounds
- Check roof drains for ice build-up
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of custodial work experience preferred
- Knowledge of hand, power, and diagnostic tools and equipment
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, codes, and guidelines for custodial operations
- Knowledge of safety precautions, preventive maintenance, chemical use/storage, and hazardous waste disposal
- Strong active listening, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze information, draw conclusions, and think creatively to solve problems
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry over 75 pounds occasionally
- Ability to sit, stand, and move around for extended periods
- May be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, tissue, or unruly children
- May require driving as part of the position
