Lead Critical Facilities Technician

About the role

We are searching for a Lead Critical Facilities Technician to join our team in Frederick, MD. This position requires extensive hands-on analysis, maintenance, and troubleshooting of facility operations within Aligned Data Centers. Under the direction of the Facility Manager (FM), the Lead Critical Facilities Technician will coordinate and train all team members, ensuring a safe, organized, and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the site during your scheduled shift, serving as the first point of escalation for all Critical Facilities Technicians (CFTs) and Critical Facilities Maintenance Technicians (CFMTs).
• Review and establish daily workflow, directing and delegating tasks to on-shift technicians to ensure safety, organization, and productivity.
• Monitor building operations and conduct virtual tours of properties during scheduled shifts (BMS Rounds).
• Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.) and customer concerns, escalating as needed.
• Address site incidents (equipment failure, SLA violations, system deviations) and escalate based on severity.
• Support the development and execution of new hire and ongoing training programs, including Qual Card, SNOW, BMS, procedure compliance, QA/QC, drills, and safety training.
• Coordinate and manage team schedules, PTO, and shift swaps in collaboration with the Facility Manager.
• Oversee and coordinate all Customer Service (SNOW) requests to Operations, ensuring proper process adherence for complex requests or projects.
• Support construction projects and activities, including change requests (CRs), safety, risk mitigation, and project handoff procedures.
• Manage site preventative maintenance for all critical and non-critical equipment, including delegation, quality assurance, and work order tracking in CMMS.
• Oversee predictive and corrective maintenance, including scheduling, contractor collaboration, process development, and work order tracking.
• Develop a solid understanding of HVAC systems, plumbing, generators, UPSs, PDUs, STSs, electrical switchgear, fire detection/suppression systems, life safety systems, and building management systems.
• Ensure all work adheres to governing MOP/SOP/EOP/CR procedures and maintenance work instructions.
• Oversee third-party work on-site, ensuring safety and compliance reviews are conducted before work begins.
• Collaborate with the Facility Manager and Maintenance Program Manager to order parts for predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance, and maintain a tracked inventory of critical spare parts.
• Understand the engineering design, operational aspects, and SOOs of all electrical, mechanical, and fire systems.
• Ensure a safe work environment by enforcing site safety rules, stopping unsafe work, and escalating safety incidents.
• Develop and improve processes to drive continuous innovation and operational excellence.

Requirements

• High school diploma and minimum 3-5 years of experience in electrical or mechanical critical facilities support, or 7+ years of experience as an HVAC or mechanical technician.
• Electrical/Mechanical certifications preferred.
• Ability to work overtime and shifts longer than 12 hours as needed.
• Proficiency in MS Office.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $48.00–$54.00 per hour, plus quarterly bonuses.
