Lead Crane/Rigging Superintendent

About the role

Bechtel’s Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing, building, and commissioning a semiconductor fab in Clay, NY. M&T serves customers in the semiconductor, datacenter, life sciences, and electric vehicle markets, striving to exceed customer objectives through agility, innovative technologies, and world-class talent. In this role, you will lead a team to provide rigging/heavy haul engineering support to a large project. You will review and approve transport studies, determine equipment requirements, develop strategies for project management, assign work tasks, and monitor progress.

Responsibilities

• Provides oversight and technical direction to subordinates and subcontractors.
• Coordinates with Superintendents and the Lead Project Rigging Engineer to validate manpower and rigger qualification requirements.
• Reviews weekly scheduled work plans with discipline superintendents to ensure the project has the rigging resources available with the proper qualifications to support the planned work scopes.
• Ensures that scheduling concerns and constraints are identified and elevated to the construction management team.
• Provides ES&H (Environmental, Safety & Health) leadership to personnel, including preparation and implementation of safety procedures and leading safety meetings.
• Ensures all crane and rigging operations comply with applicable Bechtel procedures, OSHA standards, and federal, state, county, and local regulations, as well as customer and project-specific requirements.
• Engages in the development of relevant Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs).
• Manages all site cranes during operation, including safe usage, site relocation, assembly/disassembly of telescopic RT-AT and lattice boom crawler cranes, rigging, and proper setup regarding ground bearing conditions.
• May manage site COE's (crane operator examiners) and the crane operator qualification program, including certifications, state licenses, and medical certificates verifications.
• Ensures assigned personnel are properly qualified, trained, and aware of their responsibilities, complying with all applicable standards and safe practices.
• Inspects the site for unsafe conditions and practices, taking corrective action as needed.
• Coordinates safety training and enforces safe work practices in conjunction with Environmental Safety and Health.
• Reviews and approves subcontractor equipment/personnel mobilization and demobilization.
• Plans the manpower and equipment required to execute the job.
• Monitors the activities of craft professionals to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.
• Interfaces with Labor/Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs.
• Performs employee reviews and identifies training and development opportunities for subordinate cranes and rigging personnel.
• Reviews craft time records using established automated tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
• Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.
• Experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing, or power generating station construction is preferred.
• Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
• Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to read and interpret crane manufacturers' operator manuals and load charts.
• Experienced in the safe use and inspection of rigging equipment and hardware.
• Ability to develop a 3-week look-ahead schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified rigger/signal person (NCCCO, NCCER, or equivalent).
• Certified crane operator (NCCCO, NCCER, or equivalent).
• Qualified OSHA crane inspector.
• Qualified crane A/D Director.

Additional Information

Work includes field inspections and requires the physical ability to conduct them, involving extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, uneven surfaces, and in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must be able to enter/egress the project site and use appropriate standard-issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for each assigned task (e.g., harness, life vest, lift buckets).

Pay

Salary range: $119,000–$182,700 annually. The final salary offered is determined by education, experience, and qualifications of the applicant.
