Crane & Rigging Superintendent
About the role
The Rigging Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the cranes & rigging discipline. This includes providing ES&H leadership, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and regulations, managing crane operators, and coordinating with labor relations.
Responsibilities
- Provide ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to their department.
- Ensure all crane and rigging operations comply with applicable Bechtel procedures, OSHA standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage site cranes during operation, including crane operator qualifications and certifications.
- Inspect site for unsafe conditions and practices, and take corrective action.
- Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices.
- Plan manpower and equipment required to execute the job.
- Monitor activities of craft professionals to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.
- Interface with Labor/Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs.
- Perform employee reviews and identify training and development opportunities.
- Review craft time records using established automated tools.
- Prepare reports and forecasts, including construction progress, personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.
- Implement relevant corporate project policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Procurement.
- Supervise and coordinate daily with direct hire and subcontract representatives on rigging/heavy haul activities.
- Ensure the safe execution of rigging activities in accordance with applicable SWPPs and legislative codes/standards.
- Coordinate and ensure availability of cranes, SPMTs, or other heavy haul equipment and rigging hardware required to execute lifting and transportation activities.
- Provide direction to Rigging/Heavy Haul General Foremen and Foreman as necessary to support rigging/heavy haul initiatives.
Requirements
- Typically requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing, or power generating station construction is preferred.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to read and interpret crane manufacturers' operator's manual and load charts.
- Experienced in safe use and inspection of rigging equipment and hardware.
- Qualified OSHA crane inspector.
- Qualified crane A/D Director.
Qualifications

- Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.
- Experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing, or power generating station construction is preferred.

- Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.

The project is expected to run from 2023 onwards, with ongoing operations and maintenance phases.
