Lead Cook / Chef
About the Role
Sandstone Care is looking for a Lead Cook / Chef to contribute to the day-to-day food program at our Detox facility in Chantilly. You'll prepare nutritious, high-quality meals for approximately 24 clients, create menus and recipes, and be part of our clients' recovery experience through providing nutritious meals. This is a hands-on culinary role, working alongside a Prep Cook and partnering with our Operations team. You'll have meaningful ownership of the kitchen without the pace and pressures of a traditional restaurant environment.
Full Time | Chantilly, VA | Inpatient Detox Center | $22–$26 per hour
What You'll Do
- Prepare and cook daily meals for our clients
- Develop menus and recipes that balance nutrition, preferences, allergies, and budget
- Manage food inventory, ordering, and minimize waste
- Ensure food quality, presentation, temperature, and proper food safety
- Coordinate food preparation and delivery to other Sandstone Care locations as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen
- Provide day-to-day culinary guidance to the Prep Cook
- Complete basic food service documentation and records
- Assist with catering and special events when needed
- Work with the broader team to create a positive food experience
What We're Looking For
- Professional culinary or food service experience
- Strong knowledge of food preparation and food safety
- Ability to independently plan and prepare meals for a group
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Dependability and good judgment
- A positive, collaborative approach
Education
- A high school diploma / GED and/or degree in a related field to food services is preferred
- A Serve Safe certification is required
Training & Experience
- An ideal candidate has a minimum of 1–2 years of experience in food services
- Healthcare, residential, school, catering, or other non-traditional culinary experience preferred
- Previous experience within a treatment environment of substance abuse and/or co-occurring disorders is a plus
- Valid Driver's License and clear motor vehicle report required
