ROLE SUMMARY

The Global Customer Training Instructor will deliver a world-class technical training experience to our controls-upgrade customers. This involves customizing training material to meet customer objectives and target audience, customizing simulation software, and conducting class workshops and labs. The role requires interaction with customers, training coordinators, project managers, project engineers, and other functions. The instructor reports directly to the global customer training leader to deliver quality training for CSS customers. The lead instructor role is responsible for material updates, equipment health checks, licensing of software, shipping equipment back after each class, communicating with customers, and closing out projects for final revenue recognition. The lead instructor also oversees technical advising for field services and mobilization for first-of-a-kind Controls installations, new Controls NPI, and assists with critical Customer Issue Resolution (CIR).

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparation for customer training classes (mainly in North America)
  • Attend all customer pre-training meetings and ensure all technical scope and training objectives are agreed upon with the customer
  • Obtain customer technical data to build training material, customize simulation software and workshops/labs for each customer engagement
  • Avoidance of inadequate training equipment, manuals, and tools for each class
  • Ownership of training equipment condition from calibration, integrity, software licenses, and accessories
  • Planning and booking travel itineraries, hotel booking, and rental cars for each project using GE corporate card in a compliant manner
  • Avoidance of printing manuals (using pcard or otherwise) and working with suppliers to expedite printing and resolve payment issues
  • Careful coordination of Customer Student Give-aways
  • Avoidance of assisting Regional Training Managers (RTM’s) with facility coordination and ensuring training rooms are in a presentable condition for hosting customers and internal activities
  • Delivery of customer training classes (mainly in North America)
  • Compliance with customer and GE HSE policy when delivering training onsite or at the GE facility including LOTO, tripping hazards, electrical safety and others
  • Timely reporting of risks related to incomplete software, delayed shipments, site hazardous conditions, student behavior or similar
  • Delivery of training class according to contract scope (working hours, number students per class, training room setup…etc) and reporting discrepancies to RTM and project manager
  • Timely SAP time drop, submission of expenses and training completion documents
  • Work with RTM to continuously improve the quality of training through Investments in new equipment, Identification of potential risks or hazards with equipment, training rooms, customer sites and initiating Stop Work when necessary, Periodic health checks of equipment, software licenses, labeling and scheduling, Ownership of training material updates, branding and inclusion of new workshops to keep pace with product developments, Lead the innovation of new training delivery techniques such as the use of Cloud-base VMs, e-learning modules, new products training development and utilization of AI applications
  • Services Technical Leadership and Field Advising
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to field resources in support of a power equipment outage
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serving as best practice/quality resource. Having awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributing towards strategy and policy development, and ensuring delivery within area of responsibility
  • Having in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; having working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Using judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Taking new perspective on existing solutions. Using technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Using multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions
  • Acting as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explaining difficult or sensitive information; working to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field
  • Working integrally with associated teams to create, manage, coordinate and deliver training (globally) to internal and external partners and customers. This will include select duties as content developer, trainer, and registrar
  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolving issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Mentoring junior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited university
  • More than 7 years of experience in Power Plant controls engineering, field services and instruction
  • Strong communication skills with passion for training
  • Proficiency with Cimplicity, ToolboxST and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle conflicts and pressure

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

  • Experience with cybersecurity systems for industrial applications
  • Experience with SAP and Smartsheet
  • Experience working for a large engineering firm (> 1000 persons)
  • Technical communication skills
  • Awareness of HSE requirements within industrial environments
