About the role

The Lead Compliance Engineer will lead and motivate an international compliance team, manage and deliver compliance projects, achieve product and engineering compliance, interact with regulatory agencies, analyze and evaluate new product constructions for compliance risks, research and develop expertise on applicable regulatory and industry compliance standards, organize compliance programs, document compliance, and update compliance knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate an international compliance team (covering Americas, Europe and APAC) ensuring effective collaboration and high performance
  • Manage and deliver compliance projects, balancing project work and leadership responsibilities (60% Projects / 40% Leadership)
  • Achieve product and engineering compliance by developing and executing compliance programs and completing documentation
  • Interact with regulatory agencies to facilitate projects, track changes, address compliance questions and issues
  • Analyze and evaluate new product constructions for compliance risks within the appropriate standard(s)
  • Be responsible for interfacing with regulatory agencies to understand what standards apply to what products
  • Research, identify, and develop expertise on applicable regulatory and industry compliance standards and codes
  • Organize compliance programs by preparing timetables, cost estimates, and required resources, including test laboratories and equipment
  • Document compliance by completing approval applications, recording test results, preparing investigative reports, preparing and filing Declarations of Conformity, and maintaining compliance database
  • Update job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging compliance engineering practices and standards, participating in educational opportunities and professional organizations, reading professional publications, and maintaining personal networks

Requirements

  • BS Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field
  • 3+ years experience of Project Management and Leadership responsibilities, ideally with an international context
  • 5+ years UL regulatory compliance experience
  • Knowledge of UL, CSA, CE requirements and processes
  • Knowledge of DNV, ATEX and BIS requirements and processes preferred
  • Experience certifying new products
  • Experience interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, test labs, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Microsoft 365 program suite proficiency
  • Knowledge of UL1977, UL2875, UL1682, UL508, UL817 a plus
