About the role

The Lead Certified Pharmacy Technician at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center will provide critical leadership and expert support to the pharmacy team, ensuring the accurate and efficient preparation and dispensing of medications while maintaining regulatory compliance. You will oversee technician workflows, mentor and train staff, resolve operational challenges, and manage inventory and quality control procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a positive leadership role within the department.
  • Supervises and assists pharmacy technicians and other support staff effectively.
  • Conducts performance evaluation and competency assessment of pharmacy technicians.
  • Educates, mentors, and evaluates pharmacy technicians to develop and improve skills necessary for providing pharmaceutical care.
  • Develops and provides educational programs, learning modules, and knowledge assessment tools.
  • Provides technical support for automated dispensing machines, carousel technology for automated medication inventory storage, and other pharmacy computer systems.
  • Performs all payroll and scheduling functions for all pharmacy coworkers under the direction of the Pharmacy Director.
  • Maintains appropriate controlled substance records.
  • Performs audits, investigations, and other tasks related to medication safety and potential medication diversion.
  • Responds to data requests from other clinical and/or regulatory departments.
  • Assists in implementation of process changes.
  • Works with the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Operations Manager to establish, implement, and monitor pharmacy goals and objectives.
  • Reviews and updates policies as assigned.
  • Serves as a liaison with colleges of pharmacy, schedules and orients students visiting site on clinical rotation.
  • Assists with managing the drug formulary by ensuring operational and inventory efficient processes are in place and are followed.
  • HR liaison for the department of pharmacy.
  • Pursues participation in departmental and organizational committees at the discretion of the Pharmacy Director.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, upon hire.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, upon hire.
  • Active CPT-EXCPT or CPT-PTCB or CPHT certification, upon hire.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of Pharmacy Tech experience in a hospital setting, upon hire.

Preferred

  • Two (2) years of lead, supervisory, or management experience.
