About the role
The Lead Catering Cook is responsible for executing events from start to finish when Catering Chefs are not present, including loading and transporting between campus buildings. This role involves preparing, cooking, serving, and cleaning up meals according to Catertrax orders and team guidance.
Responsibilities
- Follows Catering Chefs' instructions to prepare and serve meals according to recipes and Catertrax menus.
- Communicates with BOH and FOH personnel to ensure proper food production and delivery.
- Supports Catering Chefs by leading BOH cooks and other support positions during their absence.
- Ensures food is prepared, stored, and served safely and according to sanitation, health, and hygiene standards.
- Manages kitchen spaces and equipment, maintaining cleanliness and order.
- Assumes responsibility for the care and upkeep of catering spaces and equipment.
- Operates Middlebury College vehicles as needed, acquiring and maintaining a valid driver’s license.
- Adapts to changing circumstances and works overtime as necessary.
- Supports the department's mission and maintains a positive community reputation.
Requirements
- 2-3 years of previous cooking, kitchen, and restaurant experience.
- Fluency in Serve Safe guidelines.
- High-level kitchen skills and knowledge of kitchen equipment.
- Ability to self-manage and lead others with integrity.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs. frequently, standing for long periods, and frequent bending and reaching.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new functions within the Catering system.
