Lead Camp Counselor
Nature And Scope
Under the supervision of the Youth Development Director, the Lead Counselor is responsible for execution of program activities, transitions, incident reports, and leading other counselors in their group. This role is crucial for providing guidance, safety, leadership, education, and enjoyment for children served at camp.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the implementation of activities to provide guidance, leadership, education, and engagement for children served by camp.
- Aid in planning and implementation of programs and safety protocols to support the physical, mental, social, and spiritual development of campers and promote YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Teach basic skills of various programs to campers in a safe and respectful manner.
- Report any difficult or unusual situations to the Youth Development Director or Camp Site Lead.
- Share problems with the Youth Development Director or Camp Site Lead to facilitate their resolution.
- Facilitate proper group behavior.
- Stay updated on current issues regarding camp programs.
- Promote, monitor, evaluate, and ensure smooth operation of all camp programs with high levels of participant service.
- Maintain branch and association certifications in Metro Atlanta YMCA New Staff Orientation and Branch Emergency procedures, Keeping Kids Safe, and any other required certifications and/or training required by the YMCA of Metro Atlanta.
- Maintain and report incident/accident paperwork.
Requirements
- High School Diploma in progress or complete, or GED.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Experience working with children in a structured setting.
- Required certifications: current First Aid/CPR; must obtain any other certifications required for the position.
Ergonomic Requirements
- Ability to climb, walk, run, stoop, squat, or kneel.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment to appropriate destinations or affect the carrying of such equipment.
- Ability to use senses which enable safe supervision including seeing and/or hearing.
