We are seeking an experienced Lead Low Voltage Cable Technician to oversee structured cabling projects and guide installation crews on commercial infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can work independently, manage daily field activities, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
About the role
This role emphasizes leadership of helpers and technicians, project coordination, and low-voltage installation expertise. Based in Portsmouth, NH, this is a Contract to Hire, fully onsite position.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise low voltage cabling projects from start to finish.
- Pull, route, terminate, label, and test Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling.
- Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and construction drawings.
- Coordinate daily work assignments and direct field technicians.
- Ensure quality workmanship, productivity, and adherence to project schedules.
- Install and support cable pathways including J-hooks, ladder rack, cable tray, and conduit.
- Perform troubleshooting and basic testing of structured cabling systems.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Communicate project updates with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades.
- Train and mentor junior technicians while providing hands-on support as needed.
Requirements
- 3+ years of low voltage or structured cabling experience.
- Prior experience leading crews, running helpers, or serving as a lead technician.
- Strong knowledge of Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic installations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience reading blueprints and cabling layouts.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., work from ladders, and perform physical installation work.
Pay
$35.00 - $40.00/hr.
