Our client is looking for an experienced Lead Cable Technician to support low-voltage infrastructure projects in Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as surrounding states. Ideal candidate is open to weekly travel. This is a long-term contract-to-permanent position.

About the role

This position focuses on structured cabling, fiber work, and equipment installation across apartment renovations, office environments, and data center build-outs. The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical expertise, strong troubleshooting ability, and the flexibility to travel extensively as project needs change.

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, and terminate low-voltage cabling systems, including Cat5 and Cat6, in commercial, residential, and mixed-use project environments.
  • Perform fiber optic installation tasks and complete fusion splicing to support reliable network connectivity.
  • Assemble and organize network racks, mount hardware, and complete server rack build-outs according to site specifications.
  • Troubleshoot cabling and network issues, identify faults efficiently, and help restore system performance with minimal disruption.
  • Support access control and video surveillance installations by placing, connecting, and testing associated devices and cabling.
  • Complete cabling work in elevated spaces, using ladders or lifts safely when working above standard ceiling height.
  • Connect and dress cables within communications rooms, including terminations to switches and related network hardware.
  • Travel to project sites as required to assist with remodels, new build-outs, and infrastructure deployments, with approved expenses reimbursed by the client.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in low-voltage cabling or closely related cable installation work.
  • Proven ability to install and terminate Cat5 and Cat6 cabling in active job site environments.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic systems, including fusion splicing and fiber termination practices.
  • Working knowledge of network troubleshooting and the ability to distinguish copper and fiber infrastructure requirements.
  • Experience supporting access control systems and video surveillance cabling installations.
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders or lifts above 6 feet while following site safety standards.
  • Availability for frequent travel based on project demands.
  • Familiarity with communications room work, including cable routing, punch-downs, and switch connectivity.
