Position Overview
We are seeking a Lead, Area Health Information Specialist to support Release of Information (ROI) operations across multiple healthcare facilities throughout Baltimore and Bethesda. This is a hybrid, traveling role that requires regular presence at assigned facilities to ensure operational continuity, staff support, and client satisfaction. This role is ideal for a dependable, hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced healthcare environments, is comfortable traveling locally between sites, and can step in to provide leadership, coverage, and guidance as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide consistent on-site coverage at assigned facilities based on operational needs
- Serve as a key liaison between client sites, HIM/ROI staff, and internal leadership
- Support ROI operations across Baltimore and Montgomery County sites, including hospitals and clinics
- Assist with onboarding, training, mentoring, and workflow support for HIS staff
- Communicate staffing needs, coverage gaps, volume changes, and site challenges proactively
- Support productivity, quality, and service improvement initiatives
- Accurately process medical record and ROI requests while maintaining strict confidentiality
- Manage high-volume inbound and outbound calls from patients, providers, and authorized requestors
- Handle fax, mail, and electronic ROI workflows, including logging and tracking requests
- Create encrypted CDs/DVDs and maintain proper documentation
- Aid walk-in patients by verifying identity and processing disclosures
- Maintain working knowledge of site-specific workflows and systems
- Support continuity of coverage and minimize operational risk across all assigned sites
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Prior healthcare, HIM, medical records, or ROI experience required
- Experience with ROI workflows and EMR systems required
- Lead or supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to travel locally between Baltimore City and Montgomery County sites
- Proficiency with computers, email systems, and standard office equipment
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
