Lead Aircraft Structures Assembler

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is seeking a Lead Aircraft Structures Assembler to join the team in Mobile, AL. This role involves performing and ensuring structural assemblies of metallic and/or composite components (including hybrid stacks) according to drawing requirements and applicable standards.

About the Team

The team at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facilities assembles the A220 and A320 Family aircraft across two (soon to be three) production lines. You’ll work alongside individuals passionate about aviation, with expertise in electrical, structural, and quality areas.

Working Environment

The Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Mobile, AL, produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second production line for the A220 in 2019. This facility strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and supports Airbus’ global competitiveness.

Position Summary

Assists the Interiors Station Supervisor in maintaining an orderly flow of tasks according to the production schedule. Responsibilities include assigning work, securing materials and tools, and monitoring production quality and output within a specific function or area.

Responsibilities

• Assume routine Station responsibilities of the group manager/supervisor in their absence.
• Troubleshoot Station issues and secure necessary assistance to resolve them.
• Review production schedules and assign work to facilitate task completion and Aircraft movement per established timelines.
• Establish an orderly workflow and maintain station performance records (e.g., work orders, SOI, KPIs).
• Maintain supply levels in designated areas.
• Monitor line quality in conjunction with Quality personnel and notify of deviations.
• Assist managers in performance reviews, recommend disciplinary actions, promotions, etc.
• Advocate for LEAN principles, encourage LEAN thinking, and support implementation of LEAN initiatives/KAIZENS.
• Coordinate activities with contractors as needed.
• Fill in for absent operators when necessary.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Mandatory knowledge of processes in the area of responsibility.
• Strict adherence to FOD and Tool Control specifications.
• Strong organizational skills and quality/safety awareness specific to Interiors Station activities.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with internal and external customers.
• Qualified for Station, FPS, and other support equipment required on the station.
• Proficiency in Google Suite, HMS, MES, and iObeya.
• Minimum of 5 years of aviation experience.
• Interiors Station-specific training or demonstrated ability to adapt, learn, and lead.

Physical Requirements

• Vision: Ability to see and read computer screens, electronic equipment, documents, reports, and engineering drawings.
• Hearing: Ability to participate in conversations in person, via teleconference or phone, and hear production floor sounds, including safety warnings or alarms.
• Speaking: Ability to speak in conversations, meetings, and deliver information.
• Equipment Operation: Ability to operate office equipment (computers, phones, copiers, fax machines) and production tools (e.g., hydraulic lifts).
• Carrying: Ability to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
• Lifting: Ability to lift documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
• Pushing/Pulling: Ability to push and pull small office furniture, equipment, and tools.
• Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods during meetings or computer work.
• Squatting/Kneeling: Ability to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items on low shelving.
• Standing: Ability to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
• Travel: Ability to travel independently and at short notice.
• Walking: Ability to walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces.
