The Layout Manager

The Layout Manager oversees the layout of all building components for all project sites. This role provides technical guidance, resolves field-level layout challenges, and maintains up-to-date documentation while overseeing training, technology, and standards that support layout excellence across all projects.

  • Develop and implement, in conjunction with the Project Superintendent, a project-specific layout plan for all projects.
  • Develop, manage, and conduct all training for layout exercises with travel as required.
  • Develop uniform layout processes to include software and equipment used.
  • Facilitate coordination between VDC team and Project Team to assure a complete process.
  • Aid in providing technical engineering information and interpretation of plans, detail sheets, and specifications.
  • Ensure that all building control points are established with the project team.
  • Ensure Layout Engineers and project teams have information, technology, and training necessary to produce needed layout.
  • Identify and flag dimensional and/or diagrammatical conflicts in the structural, architectural, mechanical/electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Coverage inspections with consultants and authorities as required by the contract or otherwise as needed.
  • Ensure systems are in place to continually update drawings with changes as issued by the design team.
  • Contribute to the management of job activities, as related to layout, in accordance with Robins & Morton’s policies and procedures and within the bounds of the project contract.
  • Maintain a working relationship with the project subcontractors.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:

  • Two year education beyond high school or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
  • Minimum of ten years construction engineering and layout experience or related construction experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contract documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients, subcontractors, and/or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, distances, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • OSHA 30 Hour certification preferred. If not current, to receive within the first year of employment and keep current.

Full working knowledge of surveying techniques, equipment standards and procedures is necessary. Demonstrates strong working knowledge of VDC, including how layout integrates with digital construction workflows.
