About the role
The Law Clerk position at CGS supports the legal mission of a large federal agency. The role involves providing litigation support tasks such as cite checking, document review, legal research, and drafting legal documents.
Responsibilities
- Performs complex legal research for trial staff
- Aids in preparing draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, memoranda of law
- Reviews and conducts research for Release of Information requests
- Reviews and researches new cases and pertinent laws
- Edits and reviews final decisions and writes/researches legal opinions on newest cases
- Edits and reviews cases for issuance
- Responds to citizen letters
- Reviews AMICUS briefs
- Briefs attorneys regarding legal issues, theories, and draft statement of facts
- Assists attorneys with all phases of litigation
- Cite checks using online legal research tools (Westlaw and Lexis) and blue book
Qualifications
- Requires a Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent legal training/experience
- Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources
- Extensive experience with cite checking and blue book
- Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging
- Ability to consistently deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure

Skills
Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment is preferred, as is experience with Relativity. Publication of legal writings and participation in Law Review are highly preferred.
