About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to perform general laundry duties, distribute clean linen, and maintain a clean work area in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This role ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to CAPLICO Core Values and Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with Resident Rights and HIPAA policies.
  • Follow all laundry procedures in accordance with established policies.
  • Collect soiled linens and sort, removing stained or damaged pieces.
  • Wash and dry linens, weighing each load before placing in washer and dryers.
  • Keep accurate daily records of linen usage by each department.
  • Remove linens from dryer, sort, hang garments that do not require pressing, and hand iron as needed.
  • Fold, count, and stack linens according to policy; starch designated items as required.
  • Distribute linens to departments on a routine schedule and fill emergency requisitions for extra linens.
  • Inspect linen needs and report linen taken out of service to supervisor.
  • Wash, dry, and distribute residents’ personal clothing as directed by supervisor.
  • Mend linens and residents’ personal clothing as directed by supervisor.
  • Clean equipment and work area daily as scheduled.
  • Maintain infection control policies and procedures.
  • Attend in-service programs and perform other related duties as necessary.

Work Environment

  • Works in well-lighted and ventilated areas.
  • Constant sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving arms during working hours.
  • Must push carts and lift medium-weight stacks of linens.
  • Must lift laundry chemicals and supplies.
  • Exposure to heat, steam, contaminated linens, and infectious waste.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Must follow established safety standards and report all violations.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Must be able to obtain criminal history clearance.
  • Must comply with all training requirements.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Must maintain care and use of supplies and equipment, and perform regular inspections of resident rooms for sanitation and safety.
  • Willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel and handle residents at varying maturity levels.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions for mixing cleaning compounds and disinfecting solutions.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to speak and write English in an understandable manner.
  • Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess adequate sight and hearing (with or without prosthetics) to perform job requirements.
  • Must function independently, with flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents and personnel.
  • Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally hostile individuals.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move up to 20 pounds; occasional carrying of cleaning supplies.
  • Frequent pushing and pulling of linen carts.
  • May assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid Certification.
  • Must complete 10 hours of training within the first 30 days of employment, including DOJ Elder Abuse Training, and 4 hours of annual continuing education.
  • 6 hours of Dementia training within 30 days of employment, and 8 hours of annual continuing education.
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
