All Great Hearts students study Latin from 6th through 8th grade, and several continue in the classics track in high school, with advanced Latin and Ancient Greek (others study a modern language for four years of high school). Many academies offer Latin at K-5 as well. Latin provides an essential foundation for our academies’ focus on the Western tradition through its incorporation of history and culture. Rigorous and detailed Latin lessons will develop students that can translate texts from the original Latin to English through Socratic discussion.
