Lateral Deputy Sheriff

About the role

The Harris County Sheriff's Office seeks experienced Texas Peace Officers for Deputy Positions. Applicants must meet specific requirements and undergo a thorough background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Provide law enforcement services to the residents of Harris County
• Work in a first responder capacity
• Complete a physical abilities test battery
• Pass a thorough background investigation
• Pass a physical and psychological evaluation
• Pass a TB skin test and drug screening
• Stand for extended periods of time
• Bend, stoop, kneel
• Lift up to 40 lbs
• Firearms qualification
• Train in firearms proficiency evaluation and diagnostic

Requirements

• License as a Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
• Minimum of 12 months continuous experience as a first responder
• Valid Texas Driver's License
• Correctable vision and hearing
• Physical ability to complete a physical agility test
• Pass a background investigation
• Pass a physical and psychological evaluation
• Pass a TB skin test and drug screening
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
• Firearms qualification
• Training in firearms proficiency evaluation and diagnostic

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Associate's Degree or higher
• Experience as a first responder
• Service in the U.S. military with an honorable discharge
• Commissioned and assigned as a HCSO Reserve Deputy
• Completed at least 1,040 hours as a first responder with the HCSO Reserve Command
