Job Purpose

The Large Project Leader (LPL II) has full project responsibility for planning, organizing, leading, and executing ATV/SxS New Model Development projects with a cross-functional SEDB team. The LPL sets the project direction and strategies to achieve project results while balancing quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) targets. This role requires independent judgment, consensus building, problem solving and decision making to ensure project deliverables and business objectives are met. Projects are medium model to large model changes (CS-DS Flow).

Key Accountabilities

  • Absorbs full responsibility for assigned development projects of various size, complexity, and cost.
  • Defines the project scope, goals, deliverables and negotiates with management on an ongoing basis to secure project resources.
  • Identifies budget needs, anticipates project risks, and implements countermeasure strategies to ensure alignment with business plan objectives.
  • Achieves model business and profitability targets by controlling unit cost and development costs.
  • Sets a development execution plan that achieves quality, cost, and delivery. Breaks down clear targets, work packages, and schedules for the project team to achieve the project milestones throughout the project lifecycle from concept to production launch.
  • Manages project resources and overall schedule including coordinating tasks to meet deadlines, leading project meetings, preparing proposals and presentations for project evaluations.
  • Communicates the development direction and project results to management, executives, and SEDB team members including counterparts in Japan.
  • Collaborates across the organization, building and maintaining business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Addresses broad issues including resources, project management, manufacturing, sourcing, and technical concerns.
  • Effectively mitigates project risks, resolves conflicts, and establishes recovery plans.
  • Applies situational leadership principles to navigate diverse viewpoints, unique technical challenges, and business constraints.
  • Coordinates with project management, management, and technical leadership to ensure project teams readiness for major milestones such as drawing issues, build events, and technical evaluations.
  • Maintains accurate project development documentation and records as required by department, division, and Company guidelines.

Qualifications, Experience, And Skills

  • Minimum Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in related field.
  • Minimum Experience: 15 Years related work experience preferably in Power Sports or Automotive field.
  • Other Job-Specific Skills: Strong project management & process improvement skills, Expert knowledge of New Model development processes and Honda SEDB Organization, Ability to understand CAD layout, drawings, and technical data, Strong presentation, negotiation, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills, Excellent multi-tasking, prioritizing, and decision-making skills, Ability to positively influence & motivate team members, Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, and Power Point), Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, Excellent time management skills.

Working Conditions

  • Travel: Average of 1~3 times per month, depending on project demands. Includes possible overseas travel.
  • Physical: Primarily at a desk, some work in a lab and/or test vehicle, frequent keyboarding.
  • Hazards: Risks found in a typical office, shop, and manufacturing setting. Exposure to explosives, flammables, pressurized equipment, toxic chemicals and moving parts.
  • Overtime: Overtime expected based on project demands/responsibilities.
