Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate large horizontal mills, horizontal machining centers, or horizontal boring mills to machine steel, alloy, and fabricated components.
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations.
  • Perform complex setups including fixturing, leveling, aligning, and securing large or irregular parts.
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds based on material and machining operations.
  • Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
  • Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to resolve machining challenges and support production flow.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure safe operation of equipment, including overhead cranes and material‑handling tools.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience operating horizontal milling equipment (HMCs, HBMs, or large manual horizontals).
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and precision measurement.
  • Ability to set up and run large or heavy components with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and GD&T.
  • Experience with overhead cranes, rigging, or heavy material handling.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
  • CNC experience (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, etc.) is a plus but not required depending on machine type.

Pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
