About The Opportunity
Landscape Maintenance Worker
Schedule: Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM; Saturday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Responsibilities
- Remove litter, leaves, and other organic debris from grounds and hardscape areas.
- Perform landscaping projects, including excavation and grading for display beds, natural turf areas, and driveways.
- Clean roadways, walkways, and parking areas of debris, and remove trash daily.
- Support the NU Snow Team by removing snow and ice from university and adjoining areas, including plowing, shoveling, salting, and sanding.
- Operate and maintain various equipment and tools, including powered sweeper, steam cleaner, bobcat, dump truck, jack hammer, Air Knife/Spade, rotor tiller, chain saw, shovels, pick, broom, rack, and lawnmower.
- Detect and report improper operation of facility equipment, defective materials, and situations requiring repair to supervisor.
- Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as required or as directed.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of work experience in the field of arboriculture or a related field, including all aspects of landscape installation and maintenance.
- Thorough knowledge of turf maintenance techniques.
- Some experience in the construction and care of hardscape systems.
- Able to operate a variety of equipment and tools as described above.
- Quality-focused and effective communication skills.
- Valid U.S. State of Residence driver’s license and U.S. D.O.T. Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator’s License within three (3) months of employment.
- Massachusetts Office of Public Safety and Inspections (OPSI) 2A and 1C hoisting licenses within six (6) months of employment.
- Able to perform strenuous manual labor, including frequent lifting/carrying/transporting loads up to 50 lbs.
- Essential staff for weather-related emergencies impacting the grounds.
- Able to work overtime during the week and on weekends when needed.
- Possess a valid Hydraulic License.
- Pass a Grounds Maintenance Proficiency Test.
Other Requirements
- Ninety days after employment, become a member of Union Local 32BJ, District 615.
- Pass a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- This position is considered Essential Personnel.
- Permanent membership on the Snow Team is a requirement of this position.

Base Pay Rate: $35.40
