About the role

The Landscape Construction Foreman is a full-time, on-site leadership position based out of West Boylston, MA. This role is responsible for leading landscape construction projects in the field, with a strong emphasis on hardscaping, natural stonework, site preparation, grading, drainage, planting, and overall project execution. The ideal candidate has significant hands-on landscape construction experience and is comfortable leading a small crew while maintaining a high standard of craftsmhip, efficiency, organization, and job-site safety.

Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting landscape plans, laying out projects, coordinating crew members, preparing sites, establishing grades and elevations, installing base materials, constructing patios and walkways, installing bluestone and pavers, performing drainage work, preparing planting areas, and overseeing the completion of projects from start to finish. The Foreman works closely with company leadership and the design team to turn landscape plans into well-built finished projects while helping train and develop less-experienced crew members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a landscape construction crew and coordinate daily job-site activities.
  • Oversee projects from site preparation through final installation and cleanup.
  • Install patios, walkways, steps, edging, retaining features, and other hardscape elements using bluestone, natural stone, and pavers.
  • Construct permeable hardscape systems using proper excavation, grading, compaction, and open-graded base installation techniques.
  • Establish accurate grades, elevations, slopes, and drainage patterns.
  • Perform excavation, base preparation, soil work, grading, planting, mulching, and drainage installation.
  • Read and interpret landscape plans, site layouts, elevations, and construction details.
  • Lay out projects accurately in the field based on approved designs.
  • Safely operate compact construction equipment, power tools, and landscape machinery.
  • Direct and train crew members while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Monitor materials, tools, equipment, and job-site organization.
  • Communicate clearly with project managers, designers, clients, subcontractors, and crew members.
  • Identify field conditions or construction challenges and communicate solutions before they become larger problems.
  • Maintain clean, professional, and safe job sites.
  • Take ownership of workmanship and ensure completed projects meet Reimagined Roots' standards.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional landscape construction experience preferred.
  • Strong hardscaping experience, including patios, walkways, steps, pavers, and natural stone installation.
  • Experience with bluestone and permeable hardscape construction is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of excavation, grading, drainage, base preparation, compaction, and site construction fundamentals.
  • Ability to accurately establish grades and elevations using lasers, levels, string lines, and other layout tools.
  • Experience operating compact equipment such as mini excavators, skid steers, compact track loaders, plate compactors, and similar machinery.
  • Ability to read and execute landscape plans and construction drawings.
  • Experience leading or supervising a landscape construction crew.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound field decisions.
  • High standards for craftsmhip, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate expectations clearly and respectfully to crew members.
  • Reliable, punctual, self-motivated, and comfortable taking responsibility for project outcomes.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Experience with planting, horticulture, irrigation, carpentry, or ecological landscaping is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications, equipment experience, or specialized masonry training are a plus.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is more than an experienced landscaper. They are a builder and field leader who understands how to take a project from a drawing to a finished landscape. They have strong hardscape fundamentals, understand the importance of proper preparation beneath the finished work, and take pride in details that clients may never see but that determine whether a project lasts for decades. They are comfortable leading people, solving problems in the field, teaching less-experienced team members, and taking ownership of a job site. They appreciate natural materials, thoughtful design, ecological landscaping, and the opportunity to build outdoor spaces that are different from conventional landscape construction.
