Landfill Gas Technician

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose operational difficulties and notify Gas Plant Supervisor and/or vendor.
  • Make repairs to the Gas Collection System and Gas Treatment Equipment as required.
  • Monitor the collection field for proper concentration levels.
  • Complete necessary repairs to the collection system.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair gas conditioning equipment.
  • Assist Gas Plant Supervisor and/or vendors with troubleshooting and operation of the Power Generation Equipment.
  • Operate Generator Switchgear.
  • Complete reports, environmental agency records, order parts, and perform other administrative duties as required, including:
    • Gas collection field data
    • Start-up, Shut down & Maintenance logs
    • Daily Plant Operational condition logs
    • Calibrate and log monitoring equipment
  • Assist in the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedule.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Available for on-call response to system emergencies.
  • Conform with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and company policies.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and keep up with the latest technology through technical manuals and training seminars.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Knowledge, experience, and ability to repair and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery required.
  • Previous experience in a related mechanical, electrical, or industrial field strongly desired.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to understand and effectively use repair and parts manuals written in English.
  • Ability to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Must be available for on-call work nights and weekends.

Skills

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
  • Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention required.
  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent physical effort including handling tools and equipment; frequently lift, push, or pull up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions

  • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work environment is usually loud.
  • Required to be on call nights and weekends.

Pay

$23–$30/hour (based on experience and qualifications).

Schedule

  • 7:00 AM start time.
  • 8–10 hour shifts, Monday through Friday.
  • Overtime after 40 hours worked.
  • Must be open to on-call work.
