Landfill Attendant

About the role

The City of Edinburg is seeking a dedicated Landfill Attendant to perform the screening of all waste material coming into the City of Edinburg Landfill. Edinburg is the fastest growing city in the Rio Grande Valley, with a 23% growth rate since 2010, and is among the top five fastest‑growing cities in the state. Responsibilities

• Screen all incoming waste material for adherence to waste acceptance criteria
• Provide customer assistance and answer questions regarding policies and procedures
• Weigh vehicles entering the landfill
• Complete forms and reports
• Direct and control traffic to ensure smooth operations
• Greet and assist customers at the office
• Receive incoming calls
• Open and close the landfill site
• Maintain cleanliness of facilities
• Provide assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed
• Stay alert for new and unexpected challenges

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalency
• No experience required.
• Preferred: One (1) year of experience in environmental science or a closely related field and experience in municipal functions
• Must pass a complete background investigation.
• Must pass a pre‑employment drug test administered at the city’s expense.

Pay

$15.05 per hour
