About the role

Williams Parker, the region's largest and oldest law firm founded in 1925, is seeking an experienced Land Use Attorney to join our dynamic team in Sarasota, Florida. You will represent public and private sector clients, including nonprofit organizations, before municipal and county boards and commissions. In addition to representing private interests obtaining governmental approvals and permits, you will advise local governmental entities on issues unrelated to land use. You will typically work with our Real Estate attorneys on development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients before municipal and county boards and commissions
  • Advise local governmental entities on land use and non-land use issues
  • Handle zoning, permitting, and land use matters, including administrative proceedings and hearings
  • Collaborate with Real Estate attorneys on development projects
  • Provide exceptional client service and build long-term relationships
  • Communicate legal concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Apply strategic thinking and problem-solving to complex land use and related matters
  • Contribute to the firm's growth through business development and initiative
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from ABA-accredited law school
  • Member of The Florida Bar or licensed to practice law in another state and in good standing (willingness to sit for The Florida Bar exam in the near future if not already admitted)
  • 5+ years of experience practicing law, with a strong focus in land use
  • Technical expertise in zoning, permitting, and land use issues, including administrative proceedings and hearings before boards, commissions, and councils on comprehensive plan amendments, re-zonings, special exceptions, zoning code amendments, street vacations, subdivision approvals, and environmental reviews
