Land Surveyor In Training
About the role
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Surveyor or Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) to contribute to a wide range of land development, infrastructure, and utility projects. You will support experienced Professional Land Surveyors with CAD production, boundary analysis, land records research, legal descriptions, easement preparation, and deliverable reviews while ensuring compliance with applicable state regulations. This position is ideal for an LSIT seeking hands-on mentorship from licensed surveyors, strong exposure to boundary analysis and ALTA surveys, and a clear path toward professional licensure within the next two years.
Responsibilities
- Assist Professional Land Surveyors with CAD production, boundary analysis, land records research, legal description preparation, easement documentation, calculations, and survey deliverables.
- Collaborate with project teams to define project tasks, schedules, and resource requirements to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.
- Evaluate property boundaries using metes-and-bounds descriptions and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) principles.
- Conduct courthouse and public records research to support boundary, title, and easement determinations.
- Coordinate activities and information flow between field crews and office personnel to maintain alignment on project objectives.
- Perform QA/QC reviews of survey deliverables, including drawings, legal descriptions, and reports, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Stay current with surveying technology, software, equipment, and industry best practices, and apply this knowledge to project work.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and applicable state and industry regulations in all survey activities.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment while working independently on complex assignments.
- Communicate effectively with survey technicians, engineering staff, and other project stakeholders to support collaborative project execution.
- Manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality deliverables.
Requirements
- Surveyor in Training (LSIT) certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of land surveying field experience.
- Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, with 5+ years of Civil 3D experience ideal.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and survey drafting workflows, including manipulating drawings and linework related to boundaries.
- ALTA and boundary survey experience, with at least 3 years of experience and the ability to create and QA/QC legal descriptions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across project teams.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently on complex assignments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
Additional Qualifications
- 5+ years holding a Surveyor in Training (SIT) certification preferred.
- Experience coordinating with survey technicians, engineering staff, and other office personnel.
- Experience locating and recovering Public Land Survey System (PLSS) monuments.
- Ability to travel and support project work, including occasional extended assignments at project sites or remote offices.
- Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC).
- Knowledge of boundary surveys, easement preparation, title review, and land records research.
- Field surveying and field experience supporting a variety of land development and infrastructure projects.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- High level of organization and the ability to handle multiple different tasks at once.
- Clear understanding of your path to professional licensure and motivation to achieve licensure within the next two years.
- Interest in working with a highly ranked design firm recognized for leadership in solar, battery storage, and wind projects.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role with a Monday-through-Friday schedule, providing consistent in-office collaboration with survey and engineering teams. You will work in a professional office environment that is closely connected with field operations, supporting projects in land development, infrastructure, and renewable energy sectors. The role involves regular use of AutoCAD Civil 3D, survey drafting workflows, and Trimble Business Center, as well as coordination with field crews using modern surveying instruments and equipment. Occasional travel and extended assignments at project sites or remote offices may be required to support project needs. Pay
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $38.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
