Land Survey Field Technician II
Brief Description
Join Forest Lawn’s Architecture & Engineering team and take on a key role in the surveying and development of properties that serve generations of families. The Field Survey Technician II performs hands-on surveying activities across Forest Lawn’s memorial parks, providing accurate field data and documentation that support the planning, construction, and ongoing development of our properties. Working under the direction of a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor, you’ll contribute to site surveys, construction layout, as-built documentation, field measurements, and other surveying projects. This role offers the opportunity to apply and further develop your technical expertise, exercise greater independence in the field, and collaborate with experienced engineering and surveying professionals on projects with a lasting impact across Forest Lawn.
What You'll Be Doing
- Under the direction of the Licensed Professional Land Surveyor, perform daily field surveying operations around the memorial parks, including but not limited to: detailed site surveys to determine existing site conditions, construction staking, as-builting of installed features (walls, flatwork, utilities, etc.).
- Operate GPS, Trimble Total stations, and Auto-levels to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
- Perform field calculations, measurements, and basic quality-control checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of collected survey data.
- Coordinate with office staff to input information sent and export collected field data to staff.
- Assist with identifying and resolving discrepancies or issues encountered during field surveying activities and communicating findings to the Licensed Professional Land Surveyor.
- Review field data for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to office staff.
- Keep survey vehicle supplied with appropriate survey materials.
- Communicate effectively with the Licensed Professional Land Surveyor, office staff, contractors, and other personnel encountered during field operations.
- Maintain accurate field notes, record measurements, and documentation.
- Operate Forest Lawn vehicles, survey equipment, and other equipment in a safe and responsible manner at all times.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3+ years of field surveying experience.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Degree from accredited land surveying or related program desired.
- Valid California Driver's License, including state required levels of active auto insurance.
- Certification as LSIT desired.
- Demonstrated experience with Trimble Total Stations.
- Demonstrated experience with GNSS receivers.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D.
