Laminator Operator_Lamination 2nd Shift

About the role

This position is responsible for the overall operation of the Laminator Machine and supplying good, quality product with the ability to meet deadlines in a safe manner. Additional responsibilities will include assistance with creating SOP and other production related documentation, inventory data-entry and cross-training into other job functions as needed. This position requires routine attendance to departmental, production, safety and Company meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Laminator operation and setup (40% of time)
    • Set-up, operate, troubleshoot and make necessary adjustments to the Laminator machine following established procedures and guidelines with minimal supervision to laminate material
    • Conduct a visual inspection and perform general preventive maintenance of the laminator
    • Power on machine, gather all necessary materials, and set-up machine per product specific set-up sheet
    • Using computer station and work panel controls, select appropriate options to include adhesive, air chucks, splice complete, etc.; refer to SOP for step-by-step setup procedures
    • Feed/jog material and web through machine or splice if material is already on machine
    • Go to adhesive area and place adhesive in front of IR’s; set temperature and monitor until it reaches the required temp
    • Begin running machine, web bottom layer at IR station, turn nip “on,” increase speed and monitor tension at the IR station and cooling conveyor area
    • Turn on waterjet and begin trimming; check tension on waterjet based on thickness of material
    • Remove material from machine and stage rolls for put-away using appropriate equipment
    • Once laminator process is complete, print production ID labels and place on material
  • Quality assurance (30% of time)
    • Adhere to and follow all quality guidelines; continually check product for quality throughout the manufacturing process
  • Fork truck operation (10% of time)
    • Operate fork truck to transport raw materials and finished products while adhering to all power industrial equipment rules and safety requirements
  • Housekeeping and maintenance (10% of time)
    • Maintain clean work environment by cleaning belt from adhesive, IR’s and work area as needed
    • Maintain machine as required by changing blades as required and report any maintenance issues immediately to supervisor and maintenance department
  • Data entry and cross-training (5% of time each)
    • Utilize computer at workstation to login, enter/review production data and work orders as required
    • Cross-train into other job functions providing assistance as necessary within the department

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 12-months manufacturing or machine operating experience required; 4 years of machine operator/manufacturing experience preferred; department experience preferred
  • English fluency (read, write, speak); strong communication skills required (written/verbal)
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Cross-training within department/location will be required as part of position

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability to multitask in a stressful environment (dirty, confined spaces, strict timelines, etc.)
  • Attention to detail and adapt to changing demands
  • Read and understand units of measure; ability to perform basic math functions
  • Demonstrated comfort with data entry and basic computer skills; ERP experience preferred
  • Must be safety conscious and carry out work responsibilities in a safe manner
  • Must be able to work overtime to meet operational requirements
  • Able to safely perform related physical requirements/demands of the role

Work Environment

Manufacturing Environment: This position may operate in a manufacturing setting with conditions of high-pressure air/steam/gas, hazardous gas/chemical fumes, extreme heat and temperature variations, loud noise, exposure to dangerous machinery, dirty work environment and/or exposure to dust (pigment). The position is required to wear PPE including, but not limited to safety glasses, steel toe/composite boots and earplugs.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending, reaching, climbing, stooping, lifting, pounding, pushing and/or pulling
  • Move throughout the work location to comply with safety requirements
  • Exert up to 130 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Manual dexterity to move material and operate equipment
  • Communicate effectively (write, speak) with supervisors and others on performance and safety concerns
  • Adequate hearing ability to receive work instruction and to respond to changes in work environment
  • Attention to detail to complete work assignments
  • Time management to comply with scheduled work time and maintain productivity requirements
  • Ability to understand and abide by safety policies and maintain a safe work environment
